So much importance has been placed on looks in this day and age. But I, for one, don't particularly care about how much makeup a girl plasters on her face. I'm so sick of hearing the media criticizing ever celebrity over their looks, or how the "scientists."
**Please note sarcasm here have supposedly discovered a new way to stop everyday women from ageing and every stupid, vain woman out there is buying it. Literally and figuratively, of course.
Being pretty is so trivial. You're either pretty or your ugly, end of story. Every day, in every country in the world, women spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on their physical appearances. Leg waxes, mascaras, lipsticks, eyeliners, concealers, eye shadows and so many other products are fast becoming the most important tools for image manipulation in our society. Mousses, hairsprays, perfumes, teeth whitening strips and an assortment of products designed to improve your smile, hair, eyes, lips and everything else that other people judge you on.
Once, just once, I'd like to see a woman who can go out in public with bed hair, hairy legs, no makeup and her daggiest clothes on and not care about what everyone is going to think of her. As a matter of fact, I'm doing that right now. I always have had a tendency to stand out from the crowd. I'm currently sitting at a small table in Food Technology watching my other classmates cook. They all think I'm a complete freak, and you're about to find out why.
I have no makeup on, I'm out of uniform (And in trouble), I haven't shaved in nearly a week and my hair is still refusing to cooperate after three days. And, personally, I've never felt better. Remember, I'm a high school student, and that is where the most importance is placed on looks. Everywhere I've been today, people have looked me up and down, judging me, even though they haven't any right to do so.
I despise superficial woman, even though I'm acquainted with so many. Looking good is generally defined as being uncomfortable. I'm comfortable in my own skin, even though I get called ugly and a freak (even by my own cousin). When people place so much importance on looks, they lose sight of what really matters. It's about time the woman in this world get over themselves and sees that we are all beautiful and cosmetics can't change that. It's time I told you about my role model as well.
My role model is a teacher in school. I won't mention her name but I do admire her deeply. She's not considered pretty; actually it's quite the opposite. But she doesn't even seem to care about her appearance. She never wears makeup or jewelry (save for the earrings), she dresses in casual, comfortable cloths, wears only joggers and yet is the most beautiful woman I've ever met. She has self-confidence; something that seems to be lacking in the woman of today. She's only 26, and many people call her ugly (like they do for me). I, personally, feel she is brave woman.
Going out without makeup, jewelry, pretty clothes and dressy shoes is considered as "Oh, wow, she must be poor! Look at her clothes they are so ugly! Eww, she's not even wearing makeup!" Are we so superficial? Since when have we stopped caring about personality rather then what's on the surface? I'm disgusted with the woman of today. If only you could see that you don't have to smear yourselves with products for true beauty. That comes from being yourself and self-confidence shines. In closing, I state the following: Grow up and realize that there are more important things to life then appearances. Thank you for reading and have a lovely day.
