Did you ever tried to write down your goals for life? You probably got helping information from one of the many books on how to set up goals? Tell me confidentially, how did it go?
I got started on writing goals a long time ago and I do believe that a goal is more likely to be achieved if it gets written down, than not.
What I didn't like was that I had to write so many goals, for all aspects of life, financial, family, health, sports, etc., and then to establish the long-term as well as the short and medium-term goals. Then I had to write them in a positive affirmation format so that I could recite them. In the end, it all looked like a big mess and I found it hard to remember all of them which I had written down. No wonder I had to read all these goals every morning to refresh my mind!
I came to the conclusion that some common-sense was needed here: too many goals are hard to remember and, besides, they scatter your energies. If you have to run into too many directions, are you going to be strong enough in any of them? If you have to remind yourself of your goals every morning, do you deserve any of them? And if you can't believe them, then who is going to believe you?
Instead of all this goal clutter, you should have only one overriding goal. Yes, one big goal. One so big that it captures your imagination and all your energies. One that you can remember as soon as you get up in the morning. One big goal that you can visualize in the mirror as you prepare yourself for a new day. One that takes only a few words to get written as in: my goal is to do with excellence today everything that I do. Make it as easy as a piece of cake, make it as powerful as to excite your imagination, make it so clear that there are no doubts about it. Then, just let it be your lighthouse.
Indeed, all we need is only one big, overriding goal.
