Political Correctness: Too Much?

My views on political correctness. No offence intended by any of the article.

Political correctness is necessary to prevent racism, sexism, etc. but have we all taken it too far? If you ask me the British government really has gone overboard with its extensive views on political correctness. A good example of these extremist views on political correctness is the recent joke made by Jeremy Clarkson about lorry drivers, was it really all that bad; he was simply referring to the fact that to lorry drivers had both committed "certain crimes", at no point did he at all mention that all lorry drivers wish to do such a thing. Yet it was still deemed unfit for broadcast and was therefore not politically correct. Now his career in television is in dispute because of this simple joke based on past events.

Another example of over-bearing PCness is the song "Baa baa black sheep" you are technically no longer allowed to say "black sheep" because you may be referring to people who don't fit into society quite as well as everyone else. You now have to say "Rainbow sheep" which is not only unnecessary but also it doesn't fit the original tune. This is a blatant disregard to people's tradition, also the original song was about the colour of the sheep's wool because it was not a colour often found on sheep so it was considered special, not strange.

I hope to have put across my views about political correctness to you. I apologise to all people who I may have offended with this article, I hope you realise I was only putting my views across to you and meant no offence. Thanks for reading.

I agree. In Ausralia we have similar problems. Take for instance,ur most popular cheese. Brand name is 'COON'. There's an ongoing battle tohave it changed because it is a not so nice name that refers to a person with black skin. There are other words, but it would take too long to list them all.
