Proud of How I Look

I am proud of my body. I'll say this out loud now...

I can admit this, not out loud, naturally, but with that mantra to self that we are all encouraged to adhere to in order to achieve what “Perfection” happens to be at that moment. My girlfriends have scheduled our ‘lets go to the Mall’ date for Saturday next. That afternoon spent pretending that we don’t care that we’re not like “THEM”.

I say this because I happened upon this Magazine the other day. Full of Pretty People doing what ever it is they do best and read the “article” that captioned each picture. Each ‘girl’ for women they are not, looked, to use an old phrase, like they’d blow away on a whisper, and I thought to myself just what a sad state we are in. I’m not a champion for the down-trodden but something ignited inside me and I was fired up!

I walked along the street and let my gaze fall on each female I passed. Do you know, not One was what we used to refer to as HEALTHY. Pale, ghost creatures with bones visible where flesh should have been. No sparkle or shine . How, I asked myself, can MEN find this Sexy. Or appealing. Or as the vessel to carry that most important thing of all - Life? Remember looking through all those Paintings and Portraits from centuries past and saying to yourself ‘gosh! She’s rather zoftig!’ or “gee…didn’t they ever look in a mirror?”

Well. Yes. That’s just it. You see, The Great Masters KNEW what appealed. Each rounded shoulder, thigh or leg. Full face and lips. All that package taken together made a “WOMAN” And what lovely things have been painted, sculpted and penned all in the name of that .

So, I will admit out loud…..I’m quite fond of my Body. With all my imperfections and angles and flaws. I need to be more “caring” towards myself . So do we all. And frankly, I‘m proud to be compared to a work of Art by a MAN whom I know loves me for WHO I am and is proud to have me by his side, in Public or in Private!

And I do feel so very sorry for all those poor creatures drifting on the belief that the face that stares back at them is what matters. And the mistaken idea that Zero is as high as they need to count.
