I would like to believe that it's integrated in our natures to show kindness to our
fellow man. I am always hopeful even in our fast paced world that we will take a few
moment to help someone in need whether assisting an exhausted, young mother
or a frail elderly person. Even with this belief once in a while someone surprises
me.
My mother and I were at a local mall running errands after the loss of my father,
struggling to get through the day. We saw a young woman at the floral kiosk
buying a bouquet of fresh blooms just one of many people we passed during our
outing. A half hour later we were waiting for our ride and saw this same
individual. She walked over to us and handed me the flowers, a simple gesture to brighten our day. We had never met her before and haven't seen her since. She
was unaware of our circumstances and how much this meant, a gorgeous,
colorful bouquet which touched our hearts.
As I viewed them gracing the dining room table at my family home and saw the
smile they brought to my Mother's face, I reflected on this random act of
kindness, unexpected and poignant. We both received a blessing from her
benevolent action, sunshine in our hurting, bleak world and joy in the knowledge
her gift had brought pleasure.
