Common beliefs of society can fall under three general categories: religion, family, morals and ethics.
The average person walking down the street, most likely loves his family, attends a church in some frequency, won't steal from a co-worker, and will report a crime if they witness it. But then again, the average person walking down the street, most likely only thinks of God at Christmas, loves his family but wishes he wasn't married, if dispensed more money from a bank machine than requested, wouldn't report it, and if witnessed a robbery, would look the other way. It happens every day!
For those of you who completely disagree with me , I respect you. You are a minority consisting of the few people who still trust others and can still be trusted. I am not, by any means, saying that the average person intentionally lives a dishonest, immoral and selfish life, but mankind is looking out for himself. If you don't believe me, then watch a little Reality T.V. As sad as it is, this a " Dog eat Dog " world.
Whether you believe it or not, it is the plain and simple truth. Want some proof? Go for a ride-along with a Police officer for a day, and I guarantee, that by the next week, you will either be at the church alter or the psychiatrist.
I do believe in and have some faith in the "Old School" way of life, but today's "New School", is today's "You School"! It's every man for himself!
What I am writing about, are not pleasant thoughts. In fact, I despise what this world is coming to. I actually try to find the good in everyone, but the more I look, the less I find.
So if you are trying to distinguish between society's values and personal values, you won't find a distinct separation point. What you will find is ones own personal society; and it is very invaluable.
I apologize for my disappointing honesty!
