The Curse of the Snakebite

Alcohol and silliness.

Ten hours into the inevitable cocktail induced hangover and I find myself pondering the question; Why would I voluntarily intoxicate myself with a deadly concoction of cider, lager and blackcurrant, knowing full well that it would leave me hideously incapable of anything for the next twenty four hours? Though not a classic cocktail amongst the more sophisticated drinkers, and missing the exotic and classy element that cocktails usually require, the humble snakebite really has the ability to remove your inhibitions and insist you act in ways that'll make you shudder when the reality of your behavior from the previous evening hits home.

However prior to the embarrassment you're almost guaranteed to feel, a snakebite fueled night can be highly entertaining. Not that in anyway I ma encouraging excessive drinking of course, there is a reason why snakebite is such a favourite amongst student: definite drunkenness. Despite this, the fruity mix is surprisingly scrumptious if made correctly; half a pint of cider, a splash of blackcurrant and half a pint of lager adding a touch more blackcurrant if necessary for one of a more delicate palette, and I insist you attempt to consume at least one pint in your lifetime.

Though never destined to be a cocktail of style or glamour, snakebite will always have a place in the hearts of the youthful, fun-spirited and somewhat adventurous drinkers, after all to enjoy the potent beverage one must be able to handle their liquor.

So I find myself answering the question posed by my own hungover mind, despite feeling like you've been dragged through a hedge backwards, that your brain has an unscheduled parade going on and your mouth being dryer than the Sahara, I believe the joyous times spent with friends, laughter at your ashamedly drunken actions and the all round pleasure of behaving recklessly and throwing caution to the wind (which we all need to do once in a while) not to mention the uniquely refreshing taste, in the end it's all worthwhile...that is until the next time I discover the videos of myself dancing on youtube.
