Above Us Only Sky

Beautifully written poem by Dane Burge.

“The sky is nothingness”
I hear the critics say,
“Just air and water”
What a lie! There is so much,
Cotton candy in monstrous sizes,
The moon is cheese,
Richest quality and finest cream,
One day in the sky would be worth my life,
What a feast! My tingling taste buds,
Would go wild with delight,
If I could go near a liquorice rain cloud,
Just one tiny bight,
Would be worth all the jewellery in the world.
And if night does fall ferociously,
Rest assure, there is so much more.
The stars are delectable lemon cakes,
But the human stomach still wants more,
Taste this Mars bar!
Caramel cools ravenous mouths,.
Just in case that isn't enough,
Try the “Milky Way”
Heavenly hazelnut hops willingly down throats!
Once an old man asked me,
“Do you eat to live or live to eat?”
The second one I told him!
Food is bliss on earth.
Absolute paradise.
They say obesity is a problem,
Stuff them! You only live once!
The moon would whip around me,
I'd take a nice thick slice,
Put it between two Saturn rings,
With vegemite from the night.
If Mars becomes a cherry,
I would like to try that too!
But of course I'm only dreaming,
As I eat my vegemite sandwich.
