Love

Do you know love? Do I know love? What IS love? Love is for dummies and I am one too.

Can I just say something I know about love?
Well then this must be the end of the poem.
(Don't laugh).

If I must-
the only thing I know is what the Bible teaches.
The Word is, what Jesus is-the patience,
the kindness, the perseverance and so on.
It is all delightfully in Corinthians Epistle 1
in case you are so devoted.

But let me just say this:
I still feel like I know nothing.
I may read it; I may speak about it to others
but yet, can I really, truly love others??
Do I know love?
Honestly I do not think I do.

Yes I believe I am a loving person
that has quite a lot of compassion to give
as well as kindness.
But I do not think I come even close to
this love that is spoken of in the Bible.
This love that does not parade itself,
does not behave badly
and "always trusts."
Are you SERIOUS? I never "always trust."
I believe those moments ago in my days,
moments ago in this day
I thought I had learned to love
because I have and do feel the love of
Jesus since I have been saved.
Yes, I believe He is teaching me about love.
But I do not think I know what love like
this love He speaks of is.

"Keeps no records of wrongs"?
This love keeps no records of wrongs!
I have improved, I am praying to forgive
but I still have a few record books lying around.

I believe this holds me back,
I believe this holds us all back
from our relationship with Christ.
It is amazing.
He loves me without record,
He loves me without question,
without fear, without needing justification
proof or getting something first or return
He loves me in such a way that is impossible to match.

Just think,
our Father-
the same Creator
who designed the shellfish,
the peacock feather, the curves of the oceans waves,
the rocky shores and the mountains peaks
the same Creator-
our Father
created you.
And me.

And just as His very grace touched the shelves
of the sandy shore, the rainforests treetops
He laid His hands on You and loves You.

Do I know that love?
Huh. Do I know every corner of this earth?
Every bug, every beast, every plant or tree?
No, but I know that He loves me
and because I am a sinner-
because we have all been sinners
He gave His only begotten Son for us.
And He died for us.
And He loves us.
He taught us, He teaches us,
I ask he teaches me still
love.
Jesus, show me love. Let me love.
