My Dearest Lady

She fought long and hard with cancer, but still loves life to the very end.

I held her in my arms
Stroke her white thin hair
With soothing voice, I say
“It is ok, just let it goes,
Everything will be okay.”

I watch her suffer for a very long time
Trying to hold on to life
With each day, she still smiles
Watching the bird, looking at the sky
Always, “It is such a beautiful day.”

Then I have to coax her to let go
My heart feels at peace
I accept that her death is near
And convince her to go with God
Rest painlessly, in his loving arms.

I held her head in my arms
I am right here, go to sleep.
“Don't forget me”, she said
With tears in my eyes… never
Never, ever… could I forget you!

She looks at me with sad eyes
Too tired to say, or move
Grabbing my arm so tight
She announces: “Oh, Hail Mary!”
And with that, she goes!

Very moving. I lost a very close friend to cancer a little while ago and she made a great impression on me with her courage and unselfishness.

I returned and am so glad I did, it eases the pain to see above "another star shining in the sky." I'm going to think of that, what a wonderful thought, somehow lessens the painful feelings.

This was beautifully expressed. I lost my father to lung cancer fifteen years ago in November. Though I was in his hospice room several times during his last month of life, the most difficult, yet most beautiful and tragic, time was the final day when he began his solitary journey away from us and toward the Lord. I will never forget.

Oh, Icy...God bless you both...she's at peace now and watching over you and her grandkids. When you need to feel her love, try calling on her and ask her to hold you in her arms...you'll feel warm inside...that's her.
