Pretend World

If everyone would just be themselves, the world would be a much happier world.

Pretending to be that which we are not; a game adults often play, as do children.
Superhero soaring high above the clouds over land and water to save the world.
Cinderella waiting for her prince to come and rescue her from an insane life.
Great knight on a steed riding fearlessly into the night to battle dragons and men.
Nursemaid come to save them all from plague and virus that envelope them whole.
We live and learn, as children, that this fantasy world does not exist.
Yet we carry the game on into our lives as fulfillment of the us we cannot be.
Money, love, lust, and greed take over; and we lose ourselves in the game.
Our soul is lost to the neverland fairytale fortress we have built around us,
Until friend or foe cannot see the real person beyond the glitz and glimmer.
Our comfort of this new world becomes reality; Earth spins round and round.
The clock ticks away time faster and faster, spinning out of control.
And then we fall...
Shaken and dazed, we awaken from this fantasy to a world we've never known.
We sit in amazement and confusion as we come to grips with what is.
The childhood dreams are no more.
All the heroes and nursemaids are laid to rest.
The prince is gone.
The knight has fought his final battle.
And Cinderella sits alone.

Very nice, Pamela. Your poem reminds me of an old song, Puff The Magic Dragon by Peter, Paul and Mary.

Nicely writen, with deep thought. I like the way you have put in the fantasy elements, and talked about childhood games.

Very nicely done. I like how the fantasy of what we want is replaced with what it really is.
