Twilight

Many people find the forest peaceful in the daylight, but at twilight it becomes a very different place.

Robins call in the mist
And I shudder
Frozen, stopped, broken
Like a Hiroshima watch
Easy there, calm, relax
What's that?
Softly, creeping, crawling
Something, anything?
Is it behind me in the dark?
Peeping?
Leering, drooling, waiting
Hoping to pounce?
Nothing, nothing, naught
Waits there
Crying, dreaming, sighing
Just me, the forest
And
The horror in my head.
