What I Can't See

About my feelings after ending a relationship with a girl that I felt I had wronged.

Tapping my shoes on memories path.
Wondering where it's at.
Not so close as a door.
Torn on hinges nights before.
Silence lingers in the air.
When birds call out and owls stare.
I stand to see what thing has found me out.
I look to see what thing could make that cry, that shout.
A fog rests around my face.
As I press it to a windowed place.
Darkness covers and strangles night.
My eyes to see, they must fight.
Yet in the shadows and in the woods.
Stands a girl I misunderstood.
Her lovely body and her simple face.
A person my action's had disgraced.
She stood unable to make a sound.
My heart was unable but to pound.
I knew that this was all my fault.
I knew that this was all I sought.
Her regrets compiled by my tears.
Her hopes trapped by all my fears.
Slowly, quietly she drifts away.
I try to lie and say... Please stay.
But I know that she must go.
That her life leads down a different road.
Tears overcome my eyes.
Sorrow overcomes all my sighs.
And in that fallen state of being.
I slip back to what can't be seen.
