Naked: A Monologue Exploring Spiritual Transformation

Naked is a monologue intended for use in worship services that employ the dramatic arts. It addresses the theme of how a person is reborn in the Spirit of God.

Observations on the newborn spirit's state

God invented blue and warm. He created ladybugs and goldfish. He thought up babies, all kinds and colors and volumes and shapes and sizes. He gives identity to the tiny babies who'll break if you drop them, and the pudgy babies who'll just bounce back. He takes nameless, faceless, stillborns and aborted babies and says, “Since you never got to find yourself on earth, I'll do you one better and let you find Me in Heaven. Since you had no identity of your own, I'll give you My perfect one purely out of the abundance of My unfathomable love, My matchless grace.”

He does that for those of us stillborn into the world of sin. We haven't the capacity to create for ourselves characteristics and attributes able to be synthesized into worthy and worthwhile identities. He says to us, “Shed your skin of envy, drop your pants of pride, disrobe false loyalties, pledge naked and uncompromised allegiance to Me as seven-day Lord and Master. Do this, and I will clothe you with honor, crown you with glory, robe you in righteousness and exalt you as leaders and members of My ever-reaching kingdom of peace.”

What kind of idiot would pass up an offer like that? “Only a fool says, "There is no God (Psalm 14:1, 53:1)."”
