A Pain Inside

I'm so hungry I could die.

Monday 8/29/49: Today at school I sat with Glen Stevens. He had come back from a trip over summer break to Africa somewheres. I like Glen. He always shares his lunch with me. Mommy says I am getting fat, so I don't get any cupcakes anymore. Glen gave me some chicken and his Twinkies.

Sunday 9/4/49: I didn't sleep good last night. Something felt like it was moving around inside my butt so I stuck my finger up in there and these things came out. They were white and black on top and they looked like little worms and they moved around on my finger. I smashed all the ones I got out. I hope it was all of them.

Friday 9/9/49: I guess I didn't get all those things. Last night was really bad. I kept getting them out and smashing them but they just kept coming. I kind of thought it was cool to have something growing inside of me that was like a secret but it is starting to hurt a little with pulling them out so much. I hope it will go away soon. I hate going to the doctors. Mom might make me go if I tell her. Glen didn't come to school today so I am extra hungry.

Friday 9/16/49: I'm starting to bleed down there because there have been so many of them I guess I scratched myself too much. We sent “Get Well Soon” class cards to Glen today. They say that he is in the hospital and they don't know when he will be back. Mom made some brownies and I ate four of them. I hope she doesn't notice.

Tuesday 9/20/49: I don't think Mom believes me. She says if I am sick I have to stay in bed and just eat the jello and soup and ginger ale she brings me. She found out about the brownies and pie and cookies I ate. I was hungry. She says I need to go on a diet. I told her my stomach hurt and I couldn't go to school today. She said it hurt because I have been eating so much. These worms are really bad but I'm still too embarrassed to tell Mom about them. If I work all day maybe I can kill them all.

Sunday 9/25/49: Jacky Thomson came over and told me that Glen died. I can't believe it. I never knew anyone to die before. I told Jacky about my worms. He said yeah right so I showed him one. I think he got grossed out because he said gross and left. I'm glad he came though. It was nice getting the get well cards from school but it is always better to see someone.

Monday 9/26/49: Some friend Jacky is. He told Mom and now I'm in the same hospital Glen was in. I am so embarrassed! Everybody knows now. All these women and men have seen me naked and stuck things up me. It really hurts when they do it. They let me see that with these big worms was this green, yellow and black stuff. I am so hungry it hurts. They let me eat all the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches I want but I am still hungry.

Tuesday 9/27/49: They told me this morning that Glen had these same worms that I have. They think I got them from him when I was eating his half eaten food. They don't know what kind of worms these are but they come from Africa and Mom let in some news people to take my picture.

Wednesday 9/28/49: The doctor said that the worms have gotten into my brain and heart and they are doing all they can. Mommy was crying and Daddy came back from his trip and he was crying too. I started crying. I can't die! I'm only in third grade. I haven't been on a date or driven a car or anything yet. I hurt so bad, they have to make it stop and fix me!

That was so sad but so realistic! Great Job.
