Another

What happens when you fall in love with someone the first night you meet them? You see them from afar, and are fascinated by the way they look, and feel, and you have the best night of your life. You meet somoene else, you meet another.

And so I walked down the side of that dark road. I walked and walked, along the path taking me home.

It was late. It must have been 3am. The street was so quiet. Everyone was asleep. To be nocturnal is to be alone.

Or so I thought.

Then she walked, in the opposite direction. She was on the other side, of the road. It was cold, and so was she. We had found each other. You only live once, and I knew that. I asked if she was alright, she said she was, but I didn’t believe her.

I crossed the road, to meet her. And we stopped. I saw her face, and my god she was beautiful. Long brown hair, dark blue eyes, blue jeans, and green, covering her. I asked if she wanted to wear my jacket, but she didn’t want me to be cold. She was from where I was from. We were meant to meet.

Up above were the street lights, shining down, touching her hair, and kissing her fair female skin. I looked in to those eyes of mine, and saw more than just someone. There was something about her.

As we lived near each other, we walked home, side by side. She wore my jacket, and so we walked and walked, together, not alone, anymore. We talked, and she loved to write, as I do, and wanted to be a writer as I am. I talked and made her laugh, the sound sent shivers through me, as I felt something more than just a feeling, more than anything I had felt before.

Who was she? God I wanted to know.

We carried on across the pavement with a view to the hospital. It was quiet. Silence, and only our footsteps treading the path, as those slept in the rooms above. It felt like a dream, a quiet, quiet dream that I wanted to stay in forever and ever.

A part of me was awoken that sleeps through the shadows of life, hiding away, seeking something but never quite finding it, until you find that someone, and her presence, she wakes that part of you, and you feel the moment, and live in the moment, as a shooting star fires across the night sky when she looks at you and smiles your fears away, and all that matters is that you find her again and be with her, because you never thought you could feel this way when your last love left you so, in the darkness without light for you to find your way again.

And then another opens the door and finds you, and wants to love you, and she is someone else, and all she sees is you, and only you, for now there is no end, there is no beginning, there is a just a life you want to live, as the raindrops fall on your skin, and the scent of the summer breeze passes across your face, and the sound of the oceans against the sand overcomes you, you cannot breathe because every part of you wants her forever more, and you know, you know she is someone and not anyone, but someone.

Someone to have, and someone to hold.

And so we walked weaving in and out of each other, out of the trees, through the fence in to her abode. She fascinated me, as she spoke of her dreams, and what she wants to be, as we carried on through the night, with all asleep through the windows of the houses, with her reflection, lighting the path which only we could see.

We reached her house, and we stopped. I saw the end coming, and asked for her number, which she gave to me, and then agreed to meet again, when I call her. She thanked me for the jacket, and for taking her home through the dark of the night, with only her and I as twin spirits making a path of light through the pitch of the darkness.

As she walked away, passing the floor lights, I just gazed at her, in wonder. The moment lasted and lasted evermore. I had to turn, to leave, where I ran and ran along the pavement, in absolute elation, thanking God for not just what happened, but for bringing her in to my life and giving her and I the the world for that eternal moment, to be with one another.

As I neared home, I took a detour to the fields and fell to the ground, and with my back on the grass, and my eyes looking above, I saw the crescent moon shining down below, amidst the blanket of cloud, with the stars shining through, and down upon me, I thought, I love being here, and I love being with her. I wanted her then and I want her now.

At 4am I returned home, only to fall asleep, seeing darkness, hearing sombre music and covered by the jacket that she wore, to sense her again.

Every story has an ending, and sometimes that ending is reached by the shooting star, that carries you through the gates, to the whites of the heavens.

I went there for one night.
