The day passed by with much flirting on everyone's part and when the races were over they all decided to go to a club for a drink.
When they got there, Abby was overwhelmed by offers to buy her a drink. Brett slid onto a seat next to her and put his arm around her.
“Come on now guys,” he said warningly. “You'll all get your chance. Besides, she's my guest, so I'm buying the first one. What will you have, doll?”
“Bourbon and coke, please sir,” she said bemusedly.
“A woman after your own heart, Steve.” Brett said to one of his friends, throwing Abby a wink on his way to the bar.
After a few drinks, everyone was in the mood for some dancing, and being the only girl there with them, Abby was again bombarded by invitations. She decided she'd dance with the only one who wasn't asking her, one of Brett's friends who looked a bit like Billy Crystal. After much protest and many proclamations of “but I can't dance!” she finally dragged him onto the floor. He didn't last long however, being overcome by self-consciousness, and retook his seat. Abby sent a perfect pout and puppy dog eyes his way, but was immediately swept into someone else's arms and spun around the dance floor. Brett watched all of this a little jealously, but he knew he'd get his turn eventually. He got up to dance a bit with some of his friends, being watched from the centre by Abby. A song came on that she really liked and she began to sing, rushing up to Brett and smiling at him.
She put a hand on his shoulder, singing to him, and began to wind her body around his. She closed her eyes and swayed in time with the music, moving her whole body in a way Brett had never seen before. It was mesmerising. She came back around to the front of him, wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him softly on the cheek. Abby giggled at him and sauntered off to the bar, where another drink was waiting for her, bought by another of Brett's friends.
The night was full of flirting and knowing looks. Eventually though, Abby had to concede defeat and decided to head home. She sat down next to Brett and leaned close to him. “Thanks for a great night,” she whispered “I've got to get home before I get into too much trouble with Billy Crystal over there. I'm gonna go downstairs and grab a cab, we'll catch up soon, ok?”
She kissed him swiftly just near the corner of his mouth and gave him a tight squeeze before gliding to the top of the stairs. Before she could even descend, she felt a hand touch her arm.
“What kind of gentleman would I be if I let you walk the streets at night alone?”
Abby smiled into his eyes and consented to be walked to a cab. She could have caught one just outside the club, but there was something in the air that told them both they needed a walk. They wandered about the city for a little while, not speaking, until Brett pulled Abby onto a bench on the footpath. He looked steadily into her eyes and spoke softly.
“I love the way you've been flirting with me all night.”
Abby blushed and smirked at her shoes. Brett put his hand on her cheek and made her look at him.
“From the first day you walked into my classroom, I knew there was something about you. Something I haven't really understood until tonight. You're so beautiful.”
An unspoken boundary snapped between them and an invisible string, attached at each of their mouths, pulled them towards each other. Abby gasped as Brett's soft lips encased hers and his tongue began to gently explore her mouth. It was the most beautiful, tender kiss Abby had ever experienced. Brett's hands ran down her back, stroking her soft, young skin and moved to her thigh, pushing back the fabric of her dress and stroking the tender flesh on her inner thigh. His other hand moved down her chest and rested gently on her breast. Brett pulled away briefly and looked at them in surprise. He hadn't expected them to be this big, or feel this fantastic in his hands. He moved his mouth to her neck and breathed softly on her sensitive skin, kissing and licking it, imagining the spot to be the more sensitive one between her legs that was aching to be touched.
After some time they had to pull away. It would be too suspicious if he went home with her. Her flatmates knew who he was and it would put his job in jeopardy, even though she wasn't his student anymore. His friends would think it strange and probably tell his wife. They kissed for the last time that night, and said their sad goodbyes. For now, this was all that time would afford them.
