A crazy thing happened to me a fall day two years ago. Becky, a girl I met on line called and wanted me to come with her to Connecticut. She was in Denver and planned to drive to Omaha to see an old friend. The next day she would go from her girl friends house to Chicago to pick me up. I am in a suburb northwest of Chicago.
I got a call from her when she got close. I tried to give the weary traveler precise directions to my apartment and waited. When she arrived we hugged and kissed. I could tell she was extremely tired from the drive. She crashed in my bed by nine pm.
The next day we packed her car and headed east. Before leaving we had a hearty breakfast. Food is extremely important to me. My body just loves to eat, but I am only one hundred and ninety pounds. I got a high metabolism I heard.
The first stop was for gas in northern Indiana. We had a lot of different music CD's. She brought about forty and I had twenty to add in. Most of mine were of Jimmy Buffet as I adore his music.
We had good clear weather as it didn't rain until we were in Connecticut. In Ohio we stopped for tea at a gas station. Lunch was in a fast food plaza in Indiana.
West of Cleveland we stopped for the night in a cheap motel. It wasn't even a chain, but a sleazy place.
In the morning we drove a bit looking for a place to eat. Just outside Erie breakfast was served. Then came the long trip through New York State.
Driving or riding through the beautiful rolling hills was peaceful. We had to stop for gas twice in the beautiful state of New York. Once we stopped and forgot which side of the freeway the car was on. We thought; at first, it may be stolen.
After many hours of scenic beauty the rolling hills became dull and we were happy to exit the state. We spent thirty minutes in Mass. Then on to our destination as we traveled into town.
Once in the small town near Hartford the beauty can not be described. Fall in New England is simply beautiful. We stayed in a small motel at the edge of town, while visiting her step sister.
The family lived in a three bedroom house. While visiting the step sister drove us to a local mall where Becky did some Christmas shopping. After we arrived home the kids would be getting back from school soon so we started dinner.
Becky's daughter was staying with the family for about three months. One of the goals of this trip was to retrieve some of her belongings. She found a fascination with photography while their. We packed up what the car could hold a proceeded west. It was hard to leave as we made new friends near Hartford.
The trip west wasn't as comfortable as the car was crammed full of the daughters stuff. West of Erie we found a quiet little Italian restaurant. We were just happy to stretch our legs and not to see traffic. While in New England it began to rain. The sky's opened almost every day. The weary travelers took two days to get back to Chicago.
It was nice to get back to my home, but our final destination was a suburb of Denver. Once at my apartment we did laundry a rested.
The next day we headed for her friends home in Omaha. After leaving the Chicago area the scenery got dull. We kept ourselves amused as the countryside of corn and bean fields grew boring. At least the weather was nice. The was no precipitation since we left New England.
We came across road signs that read “watch for wind”. I don't know if this is obvious, but wind is invisible. The road brought us into the Denver area in the early evening.
