Serene Chaos

My typical American lifestyle and what I'm doing to keep my cool.

“Ahh! Where’s my American Lit homework? Has anyone seen my cell phone? Mom can you get my lunch out please? Rebekah, what are you doing with my phone? Ok, let me get my shirt on first…. No Andrew not right now! Where did dad put my backpack….? Oh yea… breakfast”

So begins my typical morning. After which, school. Sometimes it seems like a routine while other times I can hardly stand it. It goes on relentlessly throughout the day. Come about four O’clock or so I might go with one of my best friends, Hunter, to film at church, where things seemed to only get worse….

“Hey Glenn, ready to film?” Glenn just kinda stares at his computer screen not moving a muscle. “Glenn…. You ready?” “Personally I really don’t want to do this at all to tell you the truth.” He said with a frown as he glared at his screen. “But you told us today at five…. We came to film you.” “Well we’ll have to reschedule.”

And that was that. He just kept watching the screen and then began to type something. So we left and went to film the Pastor instead.

“Alright the camera’s all set. You can begin whenever you’re ready.” I said to my Pastor.

“What a second…. Where are the mics?”

“Oh the one built on the camera is designed to pick up voices only, so you don’t need a mic.”

“Then I’m not filming.”

“Hahaha, good one Pastor.”

“No I’m serious, if you don’t have a mic for me I’m not doing this interview.”

“Pastor, if you don’t do the interview, we’re not gonna be able to finish your DVD…”

“Why don’t you have mics? Anyone professional would have mics.”

“I’m fifteen, I just bought an iMac, I bought a new pro camera and a hard drive a few months ago, I haven’t been able to afford a mic yet.”

“What, you couldn’t afford a hundred dollars?”

“That’s the problem, a mic isn’t a hundred dollars.”

“Psh, why aren’t you using the church camera and our mic?”

“Cause you’re camera is older and isn’t as good as mine, and you don’t have a mic”

“Why not?”

“Um…. I’m not sure….”

“Guys do you know who we’re showing this too?”

“Yea, new members at our church…”

“So we’ve got to got to have a mic!”

“Well why doesn’t the church buy one?”

“That’s a good idea. I’m gonna buy a mic right now” He pulled out his cell phone and called Robin. “Hey Robin, what does a good camera mic cost, like a hundred dollars or so?” Suddenly Pastors jaw dropped. “That much for a mic?! Ok, thank you…”

“So... What’d he say?” I asked him.

“$600 for a good one!”

“Yea…. They’re expensive…”

“Well, I guess you’ll have to re-film everyone then…”

“That’ll take weeks…. You were the only one we had left to film…”

“Well, I’m sorry but we have to have mics.”

“Alright, we’ll see you next Tuesday then….”

And with that, we were sent home, actually making backward progress on our project.

“Ugg. Well this is… bad.” Hunter said to me. “Seriously man. Starting all over….. that’s annoying.”

“Jared, you didn’t finish your clothes!” my mom’s yells at me as I walk through the door. “I’m sorry, been kinda crazy. I guess I forgot.”

“Jared, you need to write these things down if you’re going to forget. Your sister needs to start her clothes and you’ve put everyone behind.”

“I’m sorry about that, I’ll get on it.”

I walk up to my room to hear my dad come through the front door. He says hi to Andrew and the infamous question comes from him…. right on schedule too.

“Have the dogs been fed?” He asks.

“Yes Dad.” I reply

“No they haven’t, don’t give me that.”

“They really have, just like every other night you ask.”

“Seriously guys, I know you haven’t fed those dogs yet today.”

“We’ve had them for 2 years, I’m sure if we didn’t feed them they’d be dead by now. I saw Rebekah go down a few minutes ago and feed them.”

“Alright. I guess if they die, they die.” “Guess so…”

I eat supper and get on AIM to talk to some friends, just to take a small break in my day. There are about 5 people on, so I enjoy talking to them, hearin' bout their day or whatever. However my family asks me to do something about every 2 minutes, which isn’t anything unusual….
