Does it begin with a sense of hope? Belief there is something out there that will make a difference with what it does? Or is it inertia? That results from pent up energy, exploding and giving off light, a byproduct like other byproducts and nothing more?
Starlight streams through windowpanes of the Wright house as they sit watching television. Rainbow light filters into their living room bathing faces, bending minds.
"Would you be quiet? I'm trying to listen."
"Can't you see? Those aren't even their own words. He's just saying what he thinks we want to hear."
"I have to listen to the speeches. How am I supposed to decide who to vote for?"
"You can't control what they are, but you can control yourself. Maybe you should read a book instead."
"A book isn't going to fix the problems of the world."
"Books use might have caused the problems. Others could help find solutions."
"What do you think we should do?"
"I have found in Greek and Chinese philosophy a look to nature is where a search for truth begins."
"From looking at nature? How will that help find a good politician?"
"Let's just start with a good person. Now can we agree that the sun is a good thing?"
"Yes most of the time. Some people get skin cancer. And if you look at it too long then you go blind."
"Like anything if you use it for things it was not intended then you will have problems. Let's break down what it does."
"It shines."
"Yes and what is that good for?"
"It allows us to see things we might not see by ourselves."
"When we use only our eyes with starlight we see the sun, other stars, and planets."
"This helps us how?"
"It helps us know about things that are there when we might not know about them otherwise."
"This idea of seeing, of understanding when we didn't before, does it have a name?"
"Truth, reality."
"What happens in nature with this light?"
"It creates life."
"What does life do?"
"It finds more truth."
"Does it like this process? Finding truth?"
"I think when people discover things they actually feel pleasure."
"A natural response. It is part of who we are. It might be the most important part."
"Then it is a good thing to do."
"It makes a good person."
"It is also good when that person shares it with others."
"Because everyone benefits?"
"Yes."
"Can one person have all the truth?"
"I think the more people who do it; the faster it will get done."
"And the happier we will all be because we will know what is going on."
"So what about these politicians?"
"Maybe we should have them create with government more opportunities
to have truth made."
"Like a factory making a product?"
"Like a world saving itself. All we can hope for from them is to provide the means. We will have to do the work or find someone who can. This idea of just making things for no clear ultimate end is a problem. Now is the time to evolve to a new product, a new world."
