The Boy Who Saved Baseball

This is about a book named The Boy Who Saved baseball.

The most important event in this book is the Big Game. The Big Game is a game that decides who gets the “Lucky Strike” baseball field that belongs to an old man named Doc. Doc made a deal with a company that if the Wildcats (Doc's team) won against a team that was supposedly made of all-stars they would keep the field. If they lost, the company would claim the field for a large amount of money. Tom, Frankie, Ramon, Rachel, Maria, Clifford, Cody, Maggie, and Wil were all involved in this game. The Big Game started on page 178 and ended on page 194. If you were wondering who was the boy who had saved baseball that would be Tom. Since Tom was able to see the ball coming to him (because of the HitSim) he was able to hit the ball straight up into the air. It was so windy that one of the best players on the other team wasn't able to catch the ball. Because of that Wil ran to home base to take the lead at the last inning of the game and they won 5-4.The Big Game is definitely the climax of the book; it is what everything leads up to.

There was another kid that was supposed to be involved in the game, but he ran away the day before the Big Game. His name was Cruz de la Cruz and he was the best player on the team I think Cruz de la Cruz, or just Cruz, is the most interesting character in the book because he was the best on the team. Cruz changed from silly (which he was the first time he came) to serious during the book. Another interesting thing about him is the idea of the HitSim which he invented. The HitSim is a computerized realistic batting practice that helped the whole team win the Big Game in a couple of days. It did not tell if Cruz did or did not take the HitSim. My guess of why Cruz left is because he found out Dante Del Gato's hitting secret which was swinging and swatting at stuff to train hand-eye-coordination. And after Dante Del Gato did this he was able to see the ball going through the air in slow motion. Finally, after a long time Mr. Del Gato became one of the best batter in all times.

This book reminded me of another book, but I don't know the name of the other book. The part in this book that reminds me of another is when Tom finds out that Doc wrote a letter in Tom's Dreamsketcher that said when he dies Tom gets all of Doc's fortune and property (including “Lucky Strike Field”), so when Tom and his family found this out they started packing to go to Doc's house that he used to live in before he died. Something from this book that reminded me of my own life is when Tom wanted to quit so he won't lead the team to losing, at the beginning of the book, but actually lead the team to victory, which reminds of the time I ran the one mile race and achieved fifth place out of eighty people. I was so proud that I didn't stop for a break and lose the race. From that moment on I never gave up in something I was confident in doing and something that I really wanted to do. This book reminded me of something in the world when I read it like the Spring Lake football team. That team never gives up and ends up being great and winning most of their games.

I think this book was a terrific book and I loved it. It was just a great book because of the pattern of bad and good moments, and how the main character (Tom) doesn't believe in himself and thinks that he would make the whole team lose when they would have lost without him. I would definitely recommend this book to my friend or even everyone that likes happy endings, books about sports, people who like to read, and especially people that are looking for a great book to waist or use their time. I think a reader who likes fiction books would like this one.
