“I was hanging out with my girlfriend and my best friend,” explained Alden Abbot, son of the coffee house owner.
“What is your girlfriend’s name? What is your best friend’s name?” asked Gabriel.
“My girlfriend’s name is Angelique Brown and my best friend’s name is Emery Bosworth,” Alden Abbot said to the detective. Alden looked at the detective curiously wondering what could be going on.
“Thank you very much Alden, please don’t go anywhere we might need you for more backup,” Gabriel said to Alden
Detective Gabriel Ward went in his office to get on the phone to call Angelique and Emery’s parents to get Angelique and Emery to come down to the station.
“Mrs. Bosworth your son may be convicted of a crime, would Emery please come down to the police station we need to ask him some questions,” Gabriel said to Emery’s mother when she answered.
“Of course Mr. Ward he will come down right away, is my son in any trouble,” Mrs. Bosworth asked.
Emery had been going to the high school for juvenile delinquents for two years now. Recently he had robbed the local Texaco.
A few minutes later Angelique and Emery arrived at the Police department. They were confused as to what was going on and why they needed to be there for questioning.
“Angelique, Alden said that you two went out on Friday night, is that true,” Gabriel asked.
“No,” Angelique said, “I did not go out with Alden on Friday night.”
“I see, so Alden lied,” chimed in Alex Smith, Gabriel’s worthy sidekick.
“He called me around 9 P.M. but all he did was whine about how horrible his life is and how much he hates it here,” Angelique explained to Gabriel and Alex.
“Do you know where Alden was when he called,” asked Alex.
“Honestly I am not sure where he was, he may have been outside somewhere because the sound was all muffled,” Angelique confesses to Alex.
“Does Alden work,” asked Alex Smith.
At this point in time Gabriel went to talk with Emery because he knew Alex could take over and get enough information.
“He works at Abbot’s Coffeehouse, his father owns the shop,” Angelique told Alex.
In the other room, Gabriel started talking to Emery trying to find out more information.
“Emery where were you Friday night around 10 P.M.,” Gabriel asked Emery.
“I was at home getting ready to go to sleep,” Emery honestly exclaimed.
“When was the last time you seen or heard from Alden Abbot,” asked detective Gabriel.
Back in the main office Alex was asking Angelique question after question. Alex was getting annoyed with the questions about Angelique and Alden so he started asking about the coffee house.
“You say Alden’s father owns the coffee house,” Alex Smith asked in curiosity.
“Yes,” Angelique said, “he opened up the coffee house about three years ago after Alden’s mother passed away.”
“Did you know the coffee house is burned down,” Alex asked out of nowhere.
“No! When did this happen,” Angelique asked in fear.
“Friday night around 10 P.M.,” Alex told Angelique.
“So that is why you are asking me all of these questions about Friday night,” Angelique thought out loud.
“Yeah that is why I have been asking them,” Alex explained, “Let me go check on Emery and Detective Gabriel.”
Alex Smith went into the little corner office and checked in on Emery and Gabriel. They were not getting the information they needed, however.
“Gabriel can I see you out in the hall for just one minute,” Alex suggested to Gabriel.
“Sure you can,” Gabriel answered, “Emery I will be right back.”
Gabriel and Alex went out into the hall to find out what has been going on with each others questionings.“Angelique has not been much help to me in this case, how has Emery been for you,” Alex asked.
“Emery keeps saying that he does not know what Alden was doing and that is about it,” Gabriel answered.
“Does Emery know about the coffee house being burned down,” Alex questioned Gabriel.
“No I do not think he does know about the coffee house,” Gabriel answered.
“Well we must tell him or how will he know what we are questioning him about,” Alex kindly suggested to Gabriel.
“You are right, let us go tell him,” Gabriel agreed to Alex’s last statement.
They went back into the room and told Emery that the coffee house was burnt down Friday night around 10 P.M. and that is why they were asking all these questions.
“You both think I am the one who burnt down the coffee house,” Emery spit out.
“No we are not accusing you we just need to ask questions to find out who did it,” Detective Gabriel told Emery.
“Emery can you please tell us all that happened Friday night,” Alex asked politely.
Emery pondered for a few moments about what had happened on Friday night. Finally, he remembered all the events like it were a dream that had just reoccurred.
“The night started out like any other night because I worked till 7 P.M.,” Emery started telling his story.
“Good, what happened after that,” Alex chimed in.
“As soon as I walked through the doors of my house I received a phone call from Alden asking if I wanted to hang out with him because he was bored,” Emery kept going with the story.
“Did you want to hang out with Alden,” Gabriel asked.
