The sun barely crept threw the shades and yet Danny was in a hurry to get going.

In many ways Danny had planned for this day for the last 12 years and it seemed like the moment would never come. Even now, as it arrived, he was unsure if it was all a dream or it was reality. Slowly he opened one eye to look carefully around his bedroom. Yes, the bedroom dotted with Sandy’s collection of artifacts dating back some 45 years since their marriage, filled his eyes. He stared for a few moments to make sure that this was all real. Little by little his brain assured Danny that yes he was awake and “this” was the day.

Her smell was everywhere. He inhaled deeply and for a moment he remembered the first time they met. He stood years earlier at her door and waited for his blind date to let him in. He was assured by his college room mate, Bob, that Sandy was no ordinary gal. He didn’t know then how true this would turn out to be. Even before he saw her, the scent of Sandy drifted under the door and he was hooked.

Today 47 years later he had never learned what that scent was but Sandy always had it on, especially when she used it to cajole Danny out of something she really desired. Then, her scent, and the touch of her softness left little doubt as to his ability to say no. Even as Danny thinks of this, he smiles and lets out a deep heavy breath. The stirring of sexuality begins in his inner being.

He thinks…I must get going…………….

He quickly showers and lays out his “equipment”. He has rehearsed this moment for many years and his movements are sure and swift. However, in the deepest recesses of Danny’s mind he has yet to come to grips with the reality of this moment. He is certain of only one reality. HE MUST PROCEED REGARDLESS OF THE OUTCOME.

Danny slips into his outfit for the day. Dark pants, pastel shirt, brown corduroy jacket. The weather, checked several times last night indicated a cloudy yet dry day. Temperatures in the low 50’s. Perfect for what Danny is planning.

He slips into his leather boots and hurry’s quickly off to the garage where he must make some last minute arrangements. Just before he reaches the door leading to the garage he hears her voice call out. Danny is that you?

“Yes”, he replies…………..

“Can I fix you some breakfast?”

Quickly, not wanting to either alarm her nor arouse her suspicion he replies…“No Hun …no time now ..I will grab a cup pf coffee on the way. You remember I have this doctors appointment before we leave on vacation.”

“Ok she replies…what time will you be back.?”

“Figure me for about Noon…hard to tell with morning traffic and that parade that’s moving thru downtown today.”

“Parade? What do you mean?” Sandy shouts out….

“Read the paper….The President is coming to town.”

“Oh, Ok !…I forgot“, replies Sandy. Strange Danny thought , Sandy has always been a big fan of the President. For that reason and many others Danny has planned today’s trip and his ultimate PLAN.

Time to get going he thinks and shifts his concern to the back bag lying peacefully on the back seat of his old Chevy. Slowly and deliberately Danny begins to shift the contents of his trunk into the black bag. Carefully and with deliberation he inserts the cartridge’s and zips the bag closed.

“I’m leaving now Hun” he calls out and even before she replies Danny eases the Chevy out of the garage and onto the quiet street they live on. I wonder, he thought…what everyone who knows him and lives on this street will think about him after today.

Leaving the quiet street he turns quickly onto the Highway leading to downtown.

Following I-95 he moves along with the traffic already getting crowded with the morning rush. He has timed his departure to be sure to arrive downtown well before the parade and ensuing street closings.

Danny tries to focus on the plan. Has he forgotten any details? In his mind he reviews the details….no he thinks…the plan is ready and so am I.!

Danny adjusts his mirrors as he arrives at the garage where he will leave his trusted Chevy. He wants to be sure that all is right with his view and that his quick egress from the parking garage will be assured. No time to leave anything to chance he thinks.

A very intriguing story, with really good use of suspense and a clever twist ending.
