What lay ahead for them was unknown but together they could face it. Alina knew she had done the right thing in following him...OK, so now she had no job and was headed north to an unsure future, a future with the man she had fallen in love with. At least her savings would help a bit. All those years of saving for a rainy day had paid off.

Her gaze fixed on his face as she wondered what it was that had made him leave. She didnt care what he was hiding from her about the past as long as she was in his present and his future. In time maybe he would share it with her but if not it did not matter.

She remembered the day she met him and had warmed to him right away, their eyes had met and they had not really spoken but so much was unsaid in that moment. Fate seemed to push them together at every chance and over the following weeks she had spent a lot of time with this man from nowhere and when she wasnt with him she thought of him.

Weeks had passed and slowly he had let his guard down and seemed to enjoy being with her..and in the warmth of a summer night he kissed her and sparks flew. Then that horrible morning when Joe had rung and told her that he had left. That was when she knew what she had to do. Joe was not at all surpised when she told him of her plan to hitchike and to find him but his offer of a ride was much appreciated.

His last words to her when they had found her love was "follow your heart lass and look after that friend of mine .. Hope you will come back sometime".

They would return, she knew this in her heart but there would be some miles travelled before they did go back. Looking at the road signs as they travelled she felt hungry and looked over to him with a smile. "Feel like some food and a coffe babe?" she asked him.

"Yes we havent eaten and I could sure do with a break from driving. Next coffee shop we stop at,OK?" and as if on order there was one only a mile or so ahead. They entered the coffee shop hand in hand.

The waitress could see they were in love and smiled thinking back to her own lover. They sat and ordered coffee and a meal and she watched as they sat and talked. Then as she put the coffee on the table she asked, "Where are you travelling from?" and saw the look in his eyes before he picked up the coffee and started drinking it. Alina smiled and told her they had travelled south and were off on holiday for a much needed break.

Tom looked over to her. She hadnt given any information that would harm them. He didnt know how he could ask her to share this nomadic life and yet he knew he wanted her with him. He needed her. They finished the meal and left after saying goodbye to the waitress. She had seemed nice but was just one of many they would meet and not see again.

Alina offered to drive for a while an Tom didnt hesitate to accept, It was sure nice to have her there to drive and he laid back in the seat resting his hand on her leg. He closed his eyes and drifed off into a slumber, waking only when the car stopped and he felt her shaking him.

Opening his eyes he saw the tractor in the ditch and jumped out to check if he could help. He yelled to her to get a rope as his eyes searched the darkness of the night trying to see if anyone was down there. Alina held the torch as he looked and there in the water was a man barely moving and by the moans he made it seem he was in pain...

Tom edged his way into the ditch and gently picked up the man and carried him to the car, laying him in the back seat and wrapping him in a old blanket that was there. As he woke and looked up to his rescuer Jonathan knew he was ok and not going to die in that cold ditch. not many people travelled this road much. He had gotten lucky being found.

Slowly as he caught his breath he told them where he lived and asked them to take him home. His wife would get the doctor out in the morning and so it was how that Tom and Alina arrived at the farm of Jonathan and Mrya.
