“Charge!” Shouted the master. I held my sword, started running and braced myself. The opponent was coming fast. Arrows were flying above my head. This was it. I remembered my family and my friends and realized I would never see them again. I knew there was no way of getting out of this, we were outnumbered 3 to 1, but I was sure my new pocket-watch would help.
I found the watch lying in front of the door of my house. It had a piece of parchment on it which said: Take it,it will help. From that moment, I always wore it around my neck.
The enemy was running towards us, I saw four men raise their swords and charge at me. I had no chance. I held up my shield but they just pushed me over. “Say goodbye” one of them said, with a husky voice. Three swords then came rushing down at my head, neck and chest. Everything went black. And then started flashing black and white.
I was flying forward, in a black and white tunnel. My chest was burning. I looked down and was startled at what I saw. The hands on my watch were rotating really quickly! I saw a bright light coming closer. The end. I flew out and was thrown into a wall.
“What? Where am I?” I moaned. I rubbed my shoulder and got up. I looked up and gasped. There were big metal boxes on wheels all around me! They were moving really fast!
A small gap opened in one of the boxes and it stopped in front of me. There were people inside! “What are you doing on the freeway? Get in, you maniac!” One of them yelled. I didn't hesitate to get into the big gap that just opened.
The box started moving again. I asked the man, “What happened to the war?”
“The war? World War 3 hasn't started yet!” He chuckled. “So what's you name?”
“Ric”
“Where are you from?”
“1583” I replied. I had worked out that I could not have been in my own time.
He laughed and said, “Fancy dress party eh? I guess you've had one too many.”
I didn't know what he was talking about so I just nodded.
“You can stay over at our house tonight and leave tomorrow,” The woman said.
We travelled for a few minutes and then we turned into a house. I walked in through the door and realized how amazing it was. There was comfortable leather furniture, a metal box with glass in front of it, and all sorts of objects on shelves.
“So what's up with that thing around your neck?” The man asked.
I looked down at my neck and gasped, “It's broken! The watch is broken!”
“Oh well, you better go to sleep, we haven't got any spare beds so you'll just have to sleep on the couch.” The woman replied.
She didn't understand! There was no getting back now! The watch was the only way I could get back. I thought for a moment and agreed that I couldn't do anything today. I walked over to the couch, took off a bit of my armour, lay there and stared blankly at the ceiling. It was the softest thing I had ever felt! Within minutes, I was asleep.
I woke up next morning, dazed and confused. “Where am I? What happened?” I got up quickly and remembered the events from last night.
I got my pocket-watch and examined it closely. All the parts looked as if they were there. I just had to assemble them. There were a lot of parts in the locket. I took them all out carefully and put them on the table in front of me. I looked into the empty shell of the pocket-watch and saw where to put some of the pieces. I picked up a piece which looked like a wide arc and put it in the shell. It seemed to fit well. I knew I had done it correctly. I picked up another piece and tried to fit it. The two pieces seemed to fit fine, now I just had to put about fifty more if them in.
I spent the afternoon trying to fix the watch. I was almost there. Only a few more pieces to go. I picked up the last piece and put it in. I closed the lid and waited. Nothing happened. I opened it and instantly knew what was wrong. There was a piece missing.
