A Friend's Lament

Without deep insight and retrospect does anyone really know how much we give of ourselves to our friends.

Everyone is raised with morals. It is something our parents instill in us from birth. Each parent tries to teach their children right from wrong. As we grow we adapt those morals to our way of life and how society perceives these concepts. Each generation has their own set standards for morals and ethics, these change with each generation. What was good enough for our parents may not fit into modern day society so we change things to conform to the newer generation.

Everyone also grows up with friends that believe like we do. As we grow our friends grow with us, helping us make the right decisions in life, and help us mature into adulthood. This helps us conform to laws, helps us find a meaningful relationship, a career that we can be happy in, and much more. Our friends help us as much as we help them.

As adults and children if a friend said they needed help we would do whatever it took to assist them. If our friends ask us to do something that is perceived by us as morally wrong, do we still assist them? If what was asked was considered right, do we embellish to make our point? If our friend asked for that embellishment to gain their own ends, would it still be right? A friend is a friend and they would do the same for us, if we were in their position. This is said by friends around the world.

So for the sake of my conscience, I don't do what is asked. For the sake of friendship, I do assist my friend. An embellishment on the truth, is that taking the wrong and trying to make it work with the right? For the sake of my sanity, I write this hoping to make sense of my feelings. As I make a decision that will affect not only me but my friend.
