Having a bar on St. Denis means you get exposure. It seems that is a place where East meets west in a city where one would assign an east meets west logic with the main. A bar owner had his bar bought from Java U and then resold it to them. He probably made his money and wanted to cut out from serving the public. It turns out he was an odd ball from what customers used to say sending bilingual customers away because they didn't speak in English and telling others they couldn't sit in the front with their laptops because that was where his paying clients would be. By that he meant that a person sitting with a laptop was likely to stay for a long time and he wanted to see a larger turn over of clientele so as to rake in more money. It made business sense but it turned away laptop users like myself.
I needed a place where I could plug in and didn't need the business talk although he had reason to want to bring in better paying clientele. I liked the vibe and the fact that hears was an owner who would like to personalize with his clients but there was also a downside that he was hitting on them too!
In the end, having a bar on St. Denis means you have to know your clientele and try to satisfy them. You could continue working as this owner did with a limited regard to how you are serving people but then again I wonder how long a person's business will last when you behave like that.
