I Attempted and Failed

A dramatic monoloque about living a life in solitude, not letting anybody in to help you.

What a long dark winter it’s been.
Cold and stormy most every night.
That’s why I stay in all the time.
But, I think spring is on the way.
So, what do you think? Will you stay?
I don’t have much to offer you.
I’m sorry, all the storms you know.
It’s made it so hard to get out,
my cupboards are completely bare.
I’m so embarrassed, it’s not fair
Of me to have asked you to come
When I have nothing to offer.
I have nothing but stale bread crumbs
And a little bit of water.
Oh, I don’t know why I bother!
You’re too kind to me, you know that?
Don’t think I don’t notice it all.
You’ve come and tidied up my home.
It’s almost livable again.

Well, almost. Anyway, my friend
It’s been nice. Thank you for coming.
I’ve so enjoyed your company.
But, I need to be alone now.
I need to try and clean this mess.
The foul weather has me distressed.
On second thought, spring isn’t near,
and I don’t think it’s coming soon.
I may be stuck here a while.
I need to weather it alone.
You leave now. Go on and go home.
