Phobia is an irrational, intense fear.
There are many types of phobias. Any person could have a particular phobia. Phobias are linked to the Amygdala which is an area behind the pituitary gland that secretes hormones which control and aggression.
Some common phobias are
- Claustrophobia- which is a fear of confined spaces.
- Fear of the dark- Mostly thought as a child's fear. However, several
adults still have an aversion to the dark - Fear of thunder or storms- I knew a woman who would go to her basement
whenever it would begin to rain.
More unknown phobias are
- Fear of clouds
- Fear of glass
- Fear of cell phones
Phobias are usually caused by a trigger.
Sometimes people may remember what causes the fear, others may not.
For example:
When I was younger I was afraid of dolls, especially baby dolls. I was at a friends house when I was little , she collected dolls, at first I admired the doll collection. Then another girl told me that when you sleep at night dolls try your clothes on and watch you sleep. After that I began to be
afraid of dolls. The fear lasted quite along time.
