This morning I have read some news (remember I'm here in the Philippines). Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay has decided to run for president in 2010. What made him think he could make it as president? Just because a black man like Obama can be a US president does not necessarily mean a person with the same color can be a president too in the Philippines. Filipinos can be more discriminating as to physical appearance and other outward attributes. Consider the case of Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, our boxing hero. He wanted to be a congressman, so he tried politics but was defeated by a more articulate and attractive female opponent, a Sarah Palin-like beauty in the name of Darlene Custodio. Consider also what happened to Miriam Defensor Santiago, of whom I'm an avid fan, but that's another story.
Enough of that news, or else I will suffer tremendous eyestrain, or flatulence, whichever comes first. Oh, another one. Some article on the health benefits of the much publicized virgin coconut oil. . . . So what if it is virgin? Can you still call it virgin despite the processing it undergoes before it goes to the bottle? Coconut oil, virgin or not, does not excite me very much. In fact, it gives me allergies. People should think twice about its medicinal value. If it's really good for some ailments, then why the disclaimer “No Approved Therapeutic Claims”? That makes my day, Virginia. . . .
