From the response I received from my article on August 12, 1007 entitled "Do You Believe in Ghosts?"
I feel that I didn't make myself as clear as I could have. When I said I don't believe in ghosts, I was speaking of the traditional belief that so many people have of the term "ghost."
I do not believe in ghosts who inhabit a house or vicinity for the sole purpose of scaring the pants off of anyone who comes within their predetermined area. I don't believe someone decides to stay on this earth because they are just too cantankerous to move on. I believe a ghost is one who is deceased but has not yet crossed over and until they do, the popular name for them is "ghost." I prefer to call them earth bound spirits. After all, without our body isn't that what we are? A spirit?
If someone dies suddenly or unexpectedly they might not know they have passed and until they know their fate they would be between our “here” and the other side. If someone here on earth were fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of their essence or spirit they would be seeing a "ghost" or an earth bound spirit.
Most times what we see are spirits. A well known psychic says once you have successfully returned to the other side, your spirit is free to roam. That compared to our home here on earth, the other side is like a hologram. They are here but on a different level. Their world is but three feet higher than our own so if you are one of the lucky ones who has caught a glimpse of the other side, you would have noticed that they seem to be taller or floating because they are not at our own ground level.
Have you ever noticed your pet follow something with their eyes that is unseen to you? Did you notice they are looking up higher than say, the height of a normal person? They could be following the path of a spirit and the reason their eyes are focused so high is because who they are seeing is on a different plane than our own.
So, technically I was wrong when I said I don't believe in ghosts. We don't all believe the same thing the same way and that's OK because I think it takes a lot of distinctive and uncommon beliefs to make a whole idea. We have no way of knowing who is right or who is wrong but we are all entitled to believe our own way.
As for Lizzy Borden stalking guests with her trusty axe held high? The power of one's imagination can be a truly frightening force.
