Stop Sticking It to the Man And/or Woman

Why is it that people feel they have a right not to follow rules and regulations? What are they thinking?

When did breaking the law become just another thing we people do on a daily basis? Today I am going to run to the store, pick up a few groceries, and break a few laws. When did we all start excusing ourselves from these mistakes as if we can't be expected to follow every rule society lays out there for us. I am talking about traffic laws, parking laws, laws about drinking and driving, heck even laws concerning drugs or weapons. Was there ever a time that society actually followed these rules of life?

Everyone expects the average hard core criminal to break the law. Those are not the people I speak of. I am talking about everyone else. The soccer mom from down the street. Your boss at work, or maybe even grandma. I travel on the highway to and from work and receive dirty looks from other motorists for doing the most awful thing, the speed limit. I have run into people complaining that a friend of theirs was arrested and all he did was have a little weed on him. Today while at the post office I witnessed several people to lazy to walk an extra ten feet, park in a handicapped parking spot. I am sure I could go on and list dozens of examples of people breaking the law on a daily basis. Passing in a no passing zone. Switching lanes without using a turn signal. Double parking their car. I witness kids not wearing seatbelts, or drivers trying to hide a can of brew and sipping it at a light. I don't know what or who people think they are.

I am guessing many of you will read this and think I am the crazy one. You will say that most of the laws being broken are minuscule in scale and are really not hurting anyone. That is were your wrong. These people are hurting society. Laws and rules are in place for a reason. Mainly because people tend to try and take advantage of everything they can. I think it says a lot about who you are if you are constantly trying to get one over on the law. People seem to feel invigorated by not following directions. No one is going to tell me how to live my life. I live in a free country. Your free to live and die according to the stipulations set up by the man, or woman I do not want to be sexist.

I guess what I am trying to get at is that morality, right from wrong, character, or any of a vast amount of life's lessons we are trying to teach our kids need to start with the simplest of events. Not everything in life is black and white. In many cases right and wrong are in the eye of the beholder and subject to personal thoughts and feelings. That is not the case when it comes to laws. Are you honestly going to try and teach your children morals starting with the idea they only need to adhere to the laws that they feel are just? If you feel a certain law goes to far then you need to contact your local politician. If and when you get the regulation changed, feel free to adhere to the new rule. For now just stop acting like you can do whatever you want, and please stop bragging to me when you knowingly stick it to the man, and or woman. You sound like a tool.
