The Joys of Handwritten Correspondence

All too often, in this world where time is money, and patience is something we wish that the other drivers on the Beltway had a bit of, our only written communications with friends and loved ones is in the form of emails, and sometimes only forwarded jokes, at that.

When was the last time you wrote, or received, a *real* letter? Not an e-mail. Not an e-card. Not a cutesy animated greeting, but several pages of truly meaningful content from a family member or loved one? For most of us, the answer is too long ago to accurately recall. Long gone are the days of multiple-paged handwritten letters, passed over in favor of brief emails sent to everyone in an address book.

All too often, in these days of unlimited long-distance calling plans, and hotmail accounts, we have forgotten just how pleasureable it is to open and read, then re-read, then read again, a long newsy handwritten letter. Think of one person in your address book, and write them a letter today. You will be glad you did, and you are likely to make their day, as well!

Susan,
After learning to type, I found it impossible to write a long letter, it's so much more convient on a computer using Word than writing something out, but I guess we all have different values, good luck in writing things out.

Dear Paul- WHile in many respects I have to say that I emphatically agree with you- my typing has become MUCH more legible than my handwriting after all of these years- I think even a typed mailed (snail mail that is) letter that can be kept and re-read seems to be more permanent than an email. (She said, as she replied to you electronically :)
