Did you ever hear the sage saying "Be a traveler of life; not a tourist." The depth of total absurdity is too much. Unfortunately for most of us, we are not given the choice of living our life or not..
We live each day not as a traveler for we have homes, obligations, chores and other activities that preclude seeing our day to day existence as travel but as simply that existing.
A tourist also has obligations, chores, and other activities but the activity of touring includes adaptation, meeting people and situations that are outside the day to day existence and that is what makes travel the activity of genteel people.
And, even for genteel people work is a necessity that leads to pleasure.
Existence is living. And there is no way to stop living while you work. And, for those of us who learned at an early age how to balance our day to day existence with travel, we brought back the air of consideration, and civility we learned while living outside of our day to day existence. A tourist who doesn't learn the rudimentary factors of adaptation and does not imprint those lessons in his behavior is probably a moron and shouldn't even be allowed outside the house without a nanny.
