I have found this to be very true.
When I was a young child, I delighted in reading the Guinness Book of World Records. So many talented people, and gifted. Some by choice, like 'the fattest' and some by birth, 'the tallest'.
I read about the longest hymn ever written, back in the 11th century, by Bernard of Cluny.
As the years passed, one by one, as they do, I saw that the same record was there, still over 800 years old, and I wondered why no one had broken this ancient record.
I used to make up small fun songs, and wondered if I could do such a thing as write a very LONG song?
“I can!” I told myself, and did not share this with anyone, just in case they told me, “Don't be stupid. You CAN'T.”
I began writing a hymn in 1987. Using the Bible as a guide, I worked my way through the stories, writing the lyrics to go with a melody that I invented. It had to be over 2,966 lines to break the record. Over the next seven years, I picked at it, and kept on, one verse at a time.
This hymn, called 'SING GOD'S SONG', which spans the lives of major Bible characters from Genesis to Revelation, was published in 1994 and is listed in the 1996 Guinness World Record book as being the longest hymn ever written and published. It is also listed in the 2003 Guinness World Record book, in the music section.
I say that a person CAN do anything they want to do, they just have to make their mind up and say 'I CAN' -- and, 'I WILL' -- and, then, such satisfaction in saying, 'I have!' and, 'I did!'
