She is sitting on her porch waiting for Harry to come home when a patrol car with two police officers pulls into the drive. They suggest she go into the house, and, when settled, they tell her there has been a traffic accident. Harry was killed, along with the woman, who was also in the car. The woman was from the adoption agency. Catherine faints. Her mother is contacted and it is discovered Harry has adopted the baby, as he is sterile, and he knew how much Catherine wanted a baby.
